Last week we were delighted to host our first movie night for members of our Club. We decided to start this series with Battle of the Sexes – describing the 1973 tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs. We could not choose a better movie. In the wake of the sexual revolution and the rise of the women’s movement, the 1973 tennis match between women’s World number 1 Billie Jean King and ex-men’s-champ and serial hustler Bobby Riggs was billed as the Battle of the Sexes. It became one of the most watched televised sports events of all time, reaching 90 million viewers around the world. It was not only King’s very public struggle for equality (of women tennis, but also more generally), but also very private struggle to come to terms with her sexuality.
We definitely want to continue with our movie nights – let us know if there is a movie we should definitely tune in to. Next one is coming soon. Big thanks to @Facebook Brussels for hosting us.
